Second Lantern-A-Long Block

The second block in the Lantern-A-Long is the Staircase Lantern.
Only three more blocks to go.
I sent four slab blocks to Calgary yesterday.
I made another postcard that will be going off to the west coast.  I haven't heard that my other postcards have reached their destination, but I'm keeping the faith that they will...someday.
I learned today that Mary Ellen Hopkins passed away on July 10th.  Mary Ellen was the quilter and instructor who published a few books, one of which I was able to recently purchase used, The It's Okay If You Sit On My Quilt Book.  The American Quilting Society did a nice post on her that made her sound like a very funny, happy person who made her mark in American quilting.
God Bless You.

I saw the news about May Ellen, so sad. Lovely blocks and hope your post cards make their destination, too.

I'm looking forward to seeing how those different sized lantern blocks go together - you should call the quilt 'Chinatown' when it's done as these look like Chinese paper lanterns, to me at any rate!

I'm glad that Mary Ellen sounds like she lived a good life - you'll be even more mindful of her book now that you know a bit more about her, I guess.

Hi Joanna, glad I read your post today, as I think I once asked if anyone had heard about Mary Ellen, recently as I realised she was a good age. I did a wonderful weekend workshop with her in 2000. We learned that we shared our birthdate and she was such a fun teacher. I have most of her books and had them signed. I'll see if I can pop a photo on my blog of the two of us, which I have somewhere.
Love your lantern blocks.
