I've been happily sewing, but I don't have much to show. I am up to date on the pinwheel blocks. The black one is from Twiddletails who is giving us the block pattern each week. I went with a white background. I am not tired of making pinwheels yet. Good thing because there are still three more blocks and the sashing which I notice has little pinwheels scattered in it.
I have made my top, but for the hemming. I changed the pattern quite a bit because after sewing it together I didn't like the way it looked on me. So, off came the front tab and belt, in came the side seams that flared out but now hang straight, and that makes it a very simple top. But I'm planning for the summer when it's hazy, hot and humid, and I want to be comfortable but look neat.
Vogue Patterns' website was having a sale on patterns, and because they were only $3.99, an amazing price for their patterns, and they are my favorite, I ordered three. So, including shipping, I am getting three for what one pattern usually costs.
This afternoon I picked up my cross stitch sal from Sylvia's blog. She will be posting the May pattern in a few days, and I haven't started April yet. Hopefully, I'll get it done between tonight and tomorrow.
This morning was pierogi making day at my church's school cafeteria, and there were many new people who came to help. It was alot of fun, considering how tedious it is to sit and pinch dough edges for two or three hours at a time. Today we started on the cabbage filled pierogi, the biggest seller. The crew is also working out a way for us to make blueberry pierogi, which I can testify are delicious. I had to laugh when the young mother next to me described the pierogies as looking like clams. That's a new one on me. But that led to us calling the pierogi that were opening up stuffed quahogs. Quahogs are big hard shelled clams. Around here people make a spicy stuffing with them and then stuff the shells, tie both shells back together, and bake them. Yummy.
God Bless You.

Sewing Heaven

Today I bought fabric and patterns to make a couple of outfits. I have a pretty dark plum linen for cropped pants and a green and plum print for a top. I have also completed three blocks for the pinwheel party quilt, and I have a pattern to make a purse. I am going to put on some music or a book tomorrow and cut out and sew. I have two CDs of music from Disney Classics, and I love to sing along with them. And today I began to listen to a Donna Leon book, so I think I'll get through that first.

Sunflower Quilts is having a giveaway of beautiful things. Click on the title of this post to visit her blog and enter. I have to warn you though, when I entered I was number 368.

God Bless!

Busy Saturday

My table runner is done and looks very sweet with my Annalees on it. How nice that they match. This may be the one item I have made in my entire young life that has the most ripped out stitches.

I baked four Amish Friendship breads today and put together a lasagna to bake tomorrow. That is what comes when I clean the freezer. While I was doing that I listened to Metro Girl by Janet Evanovich. It's set in Florida and is pretty good, but the Stephanie Plum series is still the funniest.

God Bless.

Giveaway at Quilting in the Sunshine State

By reading Oodles of Noodles post I learned of the giveaway at Quilting in the Sunshine State. The blogger is Mary, and she is celebrating her blog's one year anniversary. Clicking on the title of this post will bring you to her blog to see the neat fat quarter bundles that are the prizes. Now I have another blogger I can follow. I love doing that and seeing what everyone else is up to.

I haven't gotten any sewing done. Today I worked at my church making pierogi for their summer festival in June. When I came home I resumed my project of pulling out old yucca plants in the yard that are taking up alot of room. I want to plant flowers instead. I'll keep a couple of the younger yucca plants, and I'll have to keep up with them.

I'm reading the latest Charles Todd book, The Red Door, and I listened to Sunset Express by Robert Crais (not simultaneously of course.) I love the former series, and the latter is pretty good.

God Bless You!

New Fabric, and Oops goes the Table Runner

There is one Walmart left near me that still has a fabric department, and because it is affordable and I like some of the collections I went there on Friday and shopped. I bought two sets, and I could have bought more but I stopped myself (I will go back, I'm sure.) what I will make is yet unknown, but I am planning to make the pinwheel party quilt by Twiddletails so maybe I'll use one of the sets for that.

My table runner is turning into a disaster, but I'm soldiering on with it. I know I'll use it even with mistakes. I bought a darning foot for my Kenmore ( I love my sewing machine - it's made by Janome with the Kenmore name), and I experimented with it today on the table runner. I worked on only one block, and some of the stitching is okay and the rest is coming out. I am going to finish it either today or tomorrow and move on to something else, probably the pinwheel quilt.

Some random pictures of Moxie, a tree in my yard that if flowering for the first time this year, daffodils, tulips, and something else I planted the name of which I can't remember.

Good Friday

This morning I received the Sacrament of Reconciliation in one church, and this afternoon I attended the Stations of the Cross in my church. I'm sharing this because I just read the post on Bloom's blog. It is a beautiful and strong reminder of the reason for the Easter season. She is at http://www.Bloom.blogspot.com. (I can't get the link to work). God Bless You.

Let me show you the giveaway I received from Pat of A Little of This and A Little of Pat as a result of my winning a prize in the Good Eggs Bunny Hop.
Isn't that pretty fabric? Please notice the little fob with the sewing machine charm. I love the whole package. Thank you, Pat.

Back in my younger days when it was a right of passage to start a charm bracelet, my aunt who was my godmother gave me my first sterling charm bracelet. And either she or my Mom or maybe even my sister gave me a sewing machine charm. My bracelet also has a small pair of scissors. The summer I was twelve I attended Singer Sewing Center's sewing classes in my town which were part of Singer's contest that was held nationwide. I won the pre-teen class in my hometown, and my suit was shipped off for the regionals or whatever, but I didn't win those. No problem. My sewing pasttime was on it's way. I will be forever grateful to my Mom for getting me out of house that summer and letting me take those lessons. And what I meant to say by all of this is that I think I just may start a sewing machine charm collection. Sounds like fun to me.

I had an appointment today, and because I was dressed and nice and clean I didn't want to work outside or do housework, so I finished up things that were pretty much done, but not quite. For instance, I sewed the turning openings closed on two placemats, wove in the yarn on a baby blanket and stitched closed a hole in my shower cap. I had to rip out seams on the table runner I'm making. Making the blocks was the easy part. I'm having problems with sewing the triangles that surround the blocks because I have them meeting point to point instead of side to side. On two areas the triangles meet a good quarter inch off. If I can't get it right, I'll have to decide if I want to lay the blocks out square, let it be off or keep trying. Take care and God Bless You.
